Room to breathe
A Telegram message can hold 4,096 characters, so length is almost never a problem. When a message carries a photo, Telegram treats the text as a caption, and captions are shorter: 1,024 characters. Text that doesn't fit is split by default rather than cut off.
What changes, side by side
| On X | In a Telegram channel | What Twinpost does |
|---|---|---|
| Text post | Message up to 4,096 characters | Posts it to your channel |
| Post with images | Photo or album, caption up to 1,024 characters | Carries your images over, by default |
| Replies, reposts, quote posts | n/a | Not mirrored by default; they stay on X |
How the bot fits in
Telegram doesn't let outside apps post as you. Instead, a channel owner adds a bot as an administrator with permission to post. With Twinpost you use your own bot: you create it with Telegram's @BotFather, add it to your channel, and give Twinpost its token. It only needs the “Post messages” permission; you can leave every other admin right switched off.
Set it up
- Create a Telegram channel if you don't have one. Public or private both work.
- In Telegram, message @BotFather, send
/newbot, pick a name, and copy the token it gives you. - Open your channel's settings, add the bot as an administrator, and leave “Post messages” switched on.
- Create a Twinpost account and connect X.
- Choose Telegram, paste the bot token, and enter your channel's @name (or its numeric id for a private channel).
- Start mirroring. Your next posts on X show up in the channel.
Questions about Telegram
Why do I need my own bot?
Telegram doesn't let outside apps post as you. A channel accepts posts from its admins, and a bot can be an admin. You create the bot in a minute with @BotFather, so it belongs to you, and Twinpost uses its token to post.
Can it post to my personal Telegram account?
No. Telegram lets bots post to channels, not to personal chats as you. Most people create a channel named after their X account and share the link with their audience.
Will subscribers get a notification for every post?
That is up to each subscriber: they can mute your channel or keep notifications on. Twinpost sends normal messages and does not change anyone's notification settings.
Is the bot token safe to paste?
Treat it like a password: anyone with it can post as the bot. Paste it only into Twinpost's connect page. If it leaks, send /revoke to @BotFather to get a new one, then connect again.
What happens if I remove the bot from my channel?
Twinpost can no longer post there, so mirroring to that channel stops. Nothing is deleted from your channel. Add the bot back, or connect again with a new bot.
